Welcome to Niche Site Digest!
Here’s what happened last week:
💰 How to sell a site in 2023 (state of the industry)
💪 How to grow a site in a competitive niche
👨💼 How to manage VAs (and grow your business faster)
Let’s dive in!
💰Website market in 2023: the current state of things
The website marketplace looks much different in 2023 than it did in 2021 or even 2022. Selling a site today is much harder, and the multiples are lower.
So if you want to get the top dollar for your site, you need to know the current state of things.
In this video, Mark from Authority Hackers interviews Justin Cooke, one of the founders of Empire Flippers.
They go over the current state of the market, AI risks and opportunities, how to get your site ready to sell, and a lot more.
I highly recommend you give it a listen even if you’re not planning to sell the site right now.

🔍 Site Spotlight
This week’s site is in an entertainment niche.
It’s called Reality TV Updates, and it publishes updates about bars and restaurants featured on popular reality TV shows like Kitchen Nightmares and Bar Rescues.
At a glance:
Niche: Entertainment
DR: 16
Traffic: 250,000 visitors/month
# of posts: 495
Monetization: Display ads (Mediavine)

So what can we learn from this website?
✅ Pick (and stick to) a tightly defined niche.
The website's focus is clear- it covers updates about bars and restaurants from popular reality TV shows.
Nothing more, nothing less.
What I found interesting is that if you look at their header, it appears as if they are only covering Kitchen Nightmares and Bar Rescues.

However, once you dig deeper, you’ll find that they actually covered more shows, like Hotel Hell and 24 Hours to Hell.
Those shows finished airing, so there is no more content to be created for them. They kept these two in the header since they actively create content for them.
The key takeaway? Be sure to niche down - but not too niche. This site’s niche is “X updates” - where X can be any reality TV show that follows that format.
✅ Build content hubs.
I LOVE the way they’ve structured their hub pages.
Here’s an example:
These pages accomplish a few things:
They rank for the parent keyword (“kitchen nightmares updates”)
They link out to specific bars/restaurants, building topical authority
They use statistics and maps to add value to the reader (more on that in the next point)
Overall, I think it’s pretty clever how they built these hub pages into something useful while improving their SEO and getting more traffic from Google.
✅ Create statistics pages for links.
Now, to be fair, they haven’t fully taken advantage of this (hence their low DR). However, they did manage to get a dofollow link from the Guardian to their statistics page, which is something definitely worth noting.

Honestly, if they put in more effort into digital PR, I’m sure they could boost their traffic a lot.
Conclusion
So there you have it - a really low DR site with less than 500 posts pulling in some impressive traffic numbers.
They do a few things really well, and you can use these tips to grow your site, no matter what niche it is in.
Apply these tips and let me know how it went!

🛠️ Tool of the week
I’ve used a lot of hosting companies, but my favorite one by far is WPX hosting.
It’s a bit more expensive than beginner hosting you can get with other companies, but they have 24/7 support that makes it totally worth it. They are quick, efficient, and take care of everything, so I don’t have to lift a finger.
If you’re not a technical person and want that part taken care of so you can focus on building your business, I can’t recommend them highly enough.
That’s it for today - see you next week!
