šŸ” Site Niche Spotlight

Struggling to find a niche?

Want one handed to you on a silver platter?

I’ve got you covered.

In this newsletter, we’re taking a break from analyzing sites, and we’re diving into niche research. I already talked about it on Twitter/X, but I want to dive deeper here with more practical tips.

I present to you - the nails niche:

  • Niche: Nails (inspiration)

  • Total search volume: 22 million searches per month

  • Main monetization: Display ads (and some affiliate)

  • Revenue potential: $2,000-$4,000/month

  • Site sale potential: $100k+

So how would you go about building a site in this niche?

Content strategy

Low comp keywords you can rank for

The main type of content you’re going to be producing is the inspiration-style posts. When someone searches for ā€œcute pink nailsā€ or ā€œsummer white nail designsā€, they are not looking for a 2000-word article on the benefits of having white nails. They want a list post with 30, 50, 70+ nail design ideas.

So that’s what you'll be publishing - huge listicles with a ton of visual content.

And where do you get the images for your posts?

Instagram.

Listen to this interview with Tony Hill. This is his strategy in a nutshell. Find great images from Instagram, add them to your post (with proper credits!), and then pin them on Pinterest for extra traffic.

You get traffic, and the Instagram influencers get extra exposure - a win-win.

Traffic sources

Top Pinterest trends this month (#1 🄳)

Your main traffic sources for this website will be Google and Pinterest. You’ll get a ton of people searching for inspiration on Google and even more doing it on Pinterest.

On Google, you have over 800 keywords you can rank for that are low KD, high volume, and that already have low DR sites ranking. And the content is super easy to create - the readers are there for the images, so you don’t need an expert-level type of content.

When it comes to Pinterest, you can post the same images (again, with proper credits) and then drive traffic to your site. This lessens your reliance on Google and opens up even more scaling opportunities.

Monetization

Featured on a competitor site

95% of your revenue will come from display ads. Sure, you can promote nail polish, nail dryers, and so on, but realistically that’s going to be icing on the cake. The bulk of your revenue will come from display ads, probably Mediavine and Raptive (former AdThrive).

That’s fine because you can actually make a lot of money this way. A lot of these keywords have high search volume with 0 keyword difficulty, so you don’t need that many posts to bring in over 100,000 sessions per month.

At that level, you’re making between $2k and $4k a month from ads, and you are now sitting on an asset worth north of $100k. You can then decide to sell the site or keep it and just collect the money on autopilot.

Conclusion

So that’s it - that’s how I would go about building a site in the nails niche.

It’s going to take some time to see traction, but once you get going, you should be able to scale to 100,000 sessions per month with relative ease.

It’s currently open for the taking, so if you give it a go, let me know - I’m excited to see your progress!
